Founded as dev.tv, this organization was created to shine a light on important issues that disappear from public attention long before they’re resolved. Through storytelling, journalism, and media production, the team helped audiences understand complex global challenges that deserved sustained awareness.

But over time, the organization’s mission evolved.

Creating awareness remained important. Yet awareness alone was no longer enough. The team wanted to move beyond informing audiences and toward creating real, lasting impact.

Their name needed to change to support that ambition.

The Challenge

The existing name, dev.tv, no longer reflected the organization’s scope or aspirations.

The ambiguous nature of the term “development” had become increasingly problematic, carrying different meanings to different audiences—some positive, some less so. The name also tied the organization closely to a media format, despite the fact that its work had expanded well beyond television and content production.

The new name needed to accomplish several goals at once:

  • Signal a broader mission focused on impact, not just information
  • Appeal to divergent media and activist audiences
  • Feel credible to production companies, broadcasters, and journalists
  • Provide a flexible platform for future growth

Most importantly, the name needed to support a unique position in the market: an organization committed to social change, but one that could engage the media world as a trusted storytelling and production partner.

The Approach

We explored names that could bridge multiple worlds.

Rather than emphasizing a specific cause, medium, or ideology, we focused on names that could support a wide range of activities and initiatives. The organization was becoming a platform for change — one that could convene people, ideas, stories, campaigns, and partnerships in service of meaningful outcomes.

The name needed to feel expansive enough to accommodate that future.

The Solution

After exploring a variety of styles, constructs and language, Platform D was chosen as the new name.

The word platform reflects the organization’s role as a catalyst for action. It is a place where stories, ideas, partners, and initiatives come together to create momentum around issues that matter. It creates an image of a train station — a hive of activity and movement.

Unlike the previous name, Platform D is not tied to a particular medium or channel. It provides room for the organization to evolve while remaining grounded in its mission.

The “D” connects to the organization’s origins as dev.tv, allowing them to credibly retain their visual identity which prominently features a D. However, they also use this letter to pivot to a new story. For the team, the letter was quickly associated with three words that capture the organization’s aspirations:

Dream. Dare. Deliver.

Together, these ideas reflect the arc of impact itself—from envisioning a better future, to taking action, to creating tangible results.

The result is a name that feels both purposeful and professional. It resonates with journalists, producers, and media organizations while remaining authentic to the activist values at the heart of the work.

The Outcome

Today, Platform D has a name that better reflects the organization it has become. A name that moves beyond awareness toward action. A name that can engage the worlds of media, journalism, and social impact without being confined to any one of them.

And a name that supports the organization’s ultimate goal: creating meaningful change on issues that deserve more than a moment of attention.
