SpotMe has been a leader in enterprise events for decades — they’re known for creating deeply engaging events for in-person and virtual events for a wide range of Fortune 500 companies.

Over the years, SpotMe has developed unmatched expertise in events for life sciences companies. This sector has complex needs, particularly around compliance and transparency. Given these unique needs, SpotMe chose to create a specialized solution for life sciences. For some time, they used the name “SpotMe Life Sciences,” but there was a need to truly distinguish this solution with a unique name that could stand alone. Creating a new brand would allow them to clearly demonstrate their expertise in — and commitment to — pharma and medical events.

During a discussion of naming strategy and sample names, it became clear that the new name should be abstract. Because event technology is always changing, we may not be able to anticipate what events will look like in ten years. An abstract name provides ample room for growth and change. Nods to science were welcome, but could not be too direct or specific.

Following an in-depth naming exploration, the SpotMe team rallied around the name Onomi. We coined this abstract name with a couple of ideas swirling around behind it. First, it’s drawn from words like taxonomy, astronomy and autonomy, with the ‘-nomy’ portion referring to the sum of knowledge of a given field. Second, the name was also inspired by “omni,” referring to their omnichannel engagement for events. Overall, the name feels smart, friendly, visually appealing, and wide open to support the business through any changes that may come.

We’re excited to see Onomi take off — and take on this new phase.
